Elinchrom have announced the ELB 1200 portable Lithium-ion battery powered strobe system, to be available mid 2017.
The ELB 1200 are the successor to the aging Ranger RX, and provide a considerably more powerful option than the compact ELB400, with the 1200Ws pack still weighing just 4.3Kg.
Also featuring a powerful 50 watt LED modelling light, the ELB 1200 form part of a new breed of battery powered flash units, which may now be just as at home in the studio as on location.
And with a 92 CRI, also capable of shooting video, the head units also providing a silent running mode.
Hi-Sync heads are available for the ELB 1200 (though still no mention of TTL from Elinchrom at this stage).
The ELB 1200 pack also provides the 2.4GHz Elinchrom Skyport radio system built inside.
As well as a large easy to navigate OLED display interface, and a USB port for firmware updates.
The pack supports two flash heads, with symmetrical 1:1, or asymmetrical 2:1 ratios.
Full power recycle times are 3 seconds, or 1.7 seconds in “FAST” mode.
Three different head options are available for the ELB 1200, each being optimized for different flash durations.
Hi-Sync – Provide long flash durations, which allow shutter speeds up to 1/8000s, when used with an EL-Skyport Plus HS Transmitter and compatible camera.
Action – Provide short flash durations as low as 1/8850s, for freezing motion in low ambient light.
Pro – For general purpose photography.
