That took a while to arrive. Now all we need is the remote head!

EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY!

You beat me to it. I don’t understand why this took so long. I have a couple of the AD600 Pro units and never bothered with this one because of different batteries, no AC adapter, no remote head. I knew it would come out eventually but until those come out there’s no reason for me to get the AD400 Pro.

Can’t the AD400pro batteries be charged while they are being used (attached to the strobe)? I thought that was one of the ‘pro’ features… But then this adapter seems redundant, so maybe I am missing something?

It is not designed to do that, I have seen it mentioned on the F-stoppers comparison but if they did the research properly just because you can do something does not mean you should

The Elinchrom ELB and recent Profoto B10 / Plus allow for charging while in use, but not the current Godox / Flashpoint strobes. (They are not designed for it so it could even be potentially dangerous stressing volatile Lithium-ion batteries).

It would certainly be a great feature to have, though may not completely replace the capability of a dedicated AC adapter (in terms of continual run time an recycle rates etc). Also puts continual wear on the battery life.

My old Elinchrom Quadra would do that. It’s not a fully satisfactory solution. The charger trickle charges the battery it doesn’t power the lights like the mains adapter does. Heavy use of the lights can still lead to the battery going flat because you can’t charge the battery as fast as it’s being depleted.

I’m sure it took a while because they were and are designing other items and thought this could wait. But I had been waiting for them to come out with this before I would pull the trigger on them so to speak. It was really the only thing missing in already excellent system.
