Legio Aerium a US based seller and distributor of SMDV products now have limited stock of the new 80 and 90cm versions of the popular Speedbox modifiers, both available in the Bowens S-type mount .
The Speedbox-90 are also listed on Amazon.
Although not the cheapest modifier, the SMDV Speedbox (also know as the Glow ParaPop) have fast become a favorite location modifier for a number of photographers.
Mainly due to the way they pop open, and collapse very quickly and easily, with all the diffuser panels etc left intact. As well as the remarkably light weight design, making the Speedbox very easy to manage.
The main thing missing has been more versatile larger versions, and the new Speedbox-80 and 90 should now cater for that nicely.
The Speedbox-80 and 90 are currently available with the popular Bowens S-type mount, for fast attachment to studio lights with the corresponding Bowens mount.
Though this is also ideal for mounting speedlites, with the addition of a Bowens S-type speedlite bracket like the Phottix HS Speed Mount II.
And the Godox S-Type Bracket can mount speedlites and the popular Witstro bare bulb flashes.
Optional speedring inserts are also available from various sources for Bowens, Elinchom, Alien Bees, and the FlashPoint mount studio lights.
Please note – as nice as the SMDV Speedboxes are, like anything, they do have some limitations.
There are currently no grids available, and they were not really designed for mounting multiple speedlites easily. They also take up more space than traditional softboxes when folded (though they are not excessively large).
Those points aside, the Speedbox are a standout for what they were designed for (and look great too).
You can see more detail in Glow ParaPop review here.

Just wanted to mention that I’ve spoken to Legio Aerium via email many times and they are extremely helpful. Some of the best customer service I’ve ever had.
Great, thanks for the feedback Lincoln.
Too bad this kinda blows for Canadians with the exchange rate and risk of duties
I wish SMDV would make grids for their softboxes
Agree.
Cowboystudio just released 16 rod softbox with a grid. Hope smdv will release their grid too
That may be true but the 16 rod + speedring is pathetic… I’ll probably waste half my shoot setting that blaphemy up
I think the problem may be, with these larger softboxes at least, SMDV would likely need to somehow make the grids ultra lightweight as well, for the current Speedbox’s design to support them.
They are pretty clever though, so you never know what they may come up with.
If you can not find a cell for its soft box, you can make them to order.
Ask Google “Softbox Grid – make to order” ……..
I also wish they make grids for their softboxes.
There is a comment on their Facebook page saying they were designing it and there were in around July-2015. The comment said it will take around 2 months but there has not been any sign of the grids so far 🙁
I love those softboxes from smdv. And I use only speedlight but I think 1light is too weak to power softboxes 70cm and upward. So I stumbled upon this one. Do you know this brand (maybe under another name)
It’s even more pricey but more modular than smdv. Mount for 2 speedlights and you can remove both diffusor and there is even a beauty dish available. So I think Its pretty interesting with those possibilities
More pricey and US only.
About tricking time! Adorama told me they were going to have bigger ones coming months and months ago!
Ps. Any word on parapop versions of these sizes?
