Sony have announced development their own wireless radio flash system compatible with the Alpha series cameras and flash units, to be available mid year 2016.
The new Wireless Lighting Control System will include an FA-WRC1M wireless radio commander, as well as FA-WRR1 wireless radio receivers which can be attached to current Sony Alpha flash units.
The new Wireless Lighting Control System will provide control for 5 individual Groups, and up to 15 flash units. With TTL, Remote Manual, and HSS available as well.
Radio Range is stated as around 30 meters (or approx. 98 Feet).
Although suitable for all Sony Alpha cameras, the low profile and compact design of the FA-WRC1M commander unit is designed to combine nicely with the Sony mirrorless cameras, which currently keep going from strength to strength.
At this stage there are no flash units announced for the Sony system with radio receivers built inside (though those are likely to come in the future), just separate FA-WRR1 radio receivers, which can be attached to current Sony Alpha flash units.
Though at least this means current Sony flash units will not be left behind in the new radio system, as has been the case with both Canon and Nikon’s radio flash systems.
A prototype of the new Sony Wireless Lighting Control System will be on display in Sony’s booth at WPPI 2016 Las Vegas.
