Chinese lighting manufacturer Triopo’s entry into the TTL cordless flash market are now becoming available.
The Triopo F3-500W TTL are 500Ws, Lithium-ion powered, IGBT strobes, with 2.4GHz TTL and HSS enabled radio receiver built inside for Canon and Nikon DSLR camera systems.
The sizable fan cooled strobe weighs 3.2kg including battery, and provides a Bowens S-type accessory mount. As well as a powerful 20 watt LED modelling light with full 0 to 100% adjustment.
The F3-500W’s 14.8V, 5000mAh, Lithium-ion battery provides around 360 full power pops per charge, with 2 second full power recycle time.
The F3-500W also feature a large color TFT LCD display interface, and provide 4 individual groups A / B / C / D, and 16 Channels.
Obviously taking quite a bit of inspiration from the Profoto B1 TTL strobe, the F3-500W also include a unique handle design which allows it to be positioned above or below the strobe.
Triggering and remote control are via a low profile radio transmitter, which uniquely provides both Canon and Nikon master modes in the one unit.
Again supporting up to 4 groups A / B / C / D, and 16 channels. TTL and Remote Manual groups can be mixed together, and turned off individually.
The 2.4GHz transmitter provides an AF assist light, and around 50 meter radio range.

The Triopo transmitter unit provides control of 4 remote flash groups in TTL, Manual or Multi Modes.
(Its not completely clear, though Nikon master mode may only provide 3 groups).
And TTL and Manual Groups can be mixed together, or turned OFF individually as required.
Remote modelling light control via group is also provided from the transmitter.
Uniquely the Triopo transmitter provides both Canon and Nikon master modes in the one unit. This requires multiple TTL contacts on the transmitters foot to accommodate both camera systems.
The Canon ST-E3-RT style transmitter case also features an AF assist light, fast level lock, and is powered by 2 AA batteries.
The Triopo F3-500W also provides Canon and Nikon Optic Wireless slave modes, as well as basic S1 and S2 optic slave modes.
A 20W, 5600K LED modelling light is also included, with full variable adjustment from 0 – 100% (via the strobes interface).
The strobe also provides an external power port (DC 18V/15A), which would require a suitable transformer to connect to mains AC power (Triopo may possibly make available later).
