The RF605 provide a 2.5 MM shutter release socket. Being transceivers the RF605 can fire both the camera shutter, and remote flash units, with just one RF605 unit attached to the camera.
A standard PC Sync socket is provided (though this is unfortunately output only still). And the pass through hotshoe still does not support TTL.
And a simple ON – OFF switch is provided on the other side of the RF605 case –
The RF605 come in separate Canon RF605C, and Nikon RF605N versions.
Canon and Nikon versions are required for the flash wake up feature though. Apart from that the Canon and Nikon versions can work together.
They will also work on Non Canon / Nikon, or any camera with a standard hotshoe (apart from the flash wake up feature).
The Canon RF605C are available with LS-2.5, C1 or C3 shutter release cords, and Nikon N1 or N3 cords.

The main purpose for the upgraded RF605, is to provide group functionality compatible with the YN560-TX transmitter unit.
The YN560-TX can not remotely control the power levels of flashes attached to RF605 receivers. Though they can now at least turn flashes with RF605 receivers (or groups of those) On and Off from the YN560-TX transmitter.
This makes he RF605 a good receiver option for adding extra studio lights etc to the very popular and inexpensive YN560 remote manual radio flash system.
